Description
This watercolor painting of the Salt River wild horse herd shows a sampling of the beautiful and majestic animals that roam freely in the Tonto National Forest area just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. I was fortunate enough to witness these gorgeous creatures on two occasions, take lots of photos of them, and come back to my studio to decide which ones of the group I was going to include in this piece. I wish I could have painted all of them!
I have always had a fascination for wild horses and the symbolism of the historic
and pioneer spirit of the West that they represent.
What a thrilling experience to be able to see a herd roaming
the desert floor or near a mountain range! I can only hope that I was able to portray the freedom that the wild mustangs still can enjoy in the wilderness. Hopefully, that will
never change and future generations will still be able to view these
magnificent creatures. The threat of their destruction is always present.
May they always be "Wild and Free----forever"!
