Description
Enjoy this small watercolor painting of a cactus wren perched on the buds of a saguaro cactus, just ready to pop! The cactus wren is Arizona's state bird, as well as the saguaro blossom being the Arizona state flower. Cactus wren are very much at home in most communities and love to nest in the spiny branches of the cholla cactus in the desert. They are able to maneuver effortlessly among the spines of various plants and cacti. The wrens are friendly and curious birds and have been known to hop around on porches and even steal chocolate chip cookies if they are left unattended on an outdoor table!
The saguaro blooms on the saguaro are such a welcome sight in springtime and usually open during the night or early morning so bats and other insects can enjoy their nectar and complete the pollination process. The flowers are such a waxy looking white bloom with a vibrant yellow center and very often cover the entire top of a saguaro arm, creating a beautiful crown.
These two Sonoran Desert icons just belong together in this watercolor by Marilyn Smith.
