Description
This muted, soft watercolor painting features a Gambel's Quail family scurrying through the Arizona desert landscape. The male takes center stage with his black face and head plume that is so striking against his rusty "cap". The female is much more subtle in her gray colors with a smaller topknot. Even the babies have a hint of the plume waiting to develop. Surrounding the chicks and their parents is a Santa Rita cactus that turns many gorgeous shades of purple and magenta after a cold snap in the desert. Blending into the background are a few visions of the majestic saguaro cacti so well known in the Sonoran Desert. Soft tones of grays, purples and shades of green highlight this family unit.
