Description
This watercolor scene of Picket Post Mountain is within the Boyce Thompson State Park Arboretum near Superior, Arizona. The park is located at the base of the mountain on the banks of Queen Creek. Picket Post Mountain is an interesting historical spot and was a lookout post for a military camp based there during the Indian Wars era. The arboretum is filled with so many desert cactus along with lots of unusual plants from around the world. This view was painted from a photograph taken by me during one of many visits to the park. I loved the midday sunlight sparkling on the edges of the rock cliff that has so much greenery tucked into the crevices along its' wall. The sun just hits the high spots on the variegated purple peaks just beyond the reddish cliff and lands on the sandy desert area below where many saguaro cactus reside.
