Description
A single white cereus cactus flower on three green cactus bra, nches covered with spiny needles that are shimmering in the sunlight is set against a rust-colored adobe wall with cracks in the ancient texture. The cereus cacti, found in the deserts of Arizona and the Southwest, has beautiful flowers that only open during the night time hours. Bats love their nectar and show up as soon as the flowers open. In the morning sunlight the bees show up to do their part in pollinating the plants. By mid-day the blooms have done their job and start to wilt, fading completely by evening time. The flowers are usually 6 to 8 inches across and have such gorgeous color shading on the outer petals which really sets off the lovely white interior petals. This is a watercolor painting by Marilyn Smith.
