Description
I love to see the desert in Arizona after the monsoons have moved out and the various plants come alive from the recent rains. This little watercolor represents the white sands of the western Sonoran desert part of Arizona, into California and other southwestern states, where the sand verbena creeps along desert washes and blooms with vigor in clusters of purple or pink flowers, bringing to life a dull landscape suffering from the intense heat of summer. Winter rains also produce magnificent carpets of color. Native Americans used this plant for a poultice on burns by mashing the roots.

Beautiful artwork, Marilyn. Purple is my passion color, so this really caught my eye. I would love to see these flowers carpeting the sandy washes here in my Sonoran Desert, but I am in the furthest south eastern portion of that desert in the US, and they don’t grow here. Congratulations for all your Homepage Features, well deserved! LF 💕Janet
