Description
The bald eagle, a "spirit in the sky", soars over the Salt River Canyon below him. He knows there is great fishing for his lunch somewhere beneath him. The river runs for miles through Arizona, cutting deeper and deeper into the canyon walls. The drive on highway 60 leaving Globe, Arizona will take you over the White Mountains of the Tonto National Forest area where you will encounter many switchback curves, twists and turns as you find yourself from the mountain tops down into the canyon. You will cross a bridge over the river and then begin your ascent up to the top on the other side. Their are many lookout spots such as this one along the way which makes the trip unforgettable. A variety of desert plants and cactus are always around the next corner as well as many rocky ledges and enormous cliffs. The views certainly take your breath away, but don't go too close to the edge! This view is one of many of my "favorite places" in Arizona.
