Description
This watercolor painting of Cape Disappointment Lighthouse depicts the furious crashing waves from the Pacific Ocean rolling in with the evening tide. This lighthouse was the first one constructed in the Pacific northwest in 1856. It is located on a headland at the mouth of the Columbia River along the southwestern corner of the state of Washington. The beach in the painting is known as Waikiki Beach and is part of the Cape Disappointment state park in the area. During stormy weather these waves can lick the top of the lighthouse cliff.
