Artist's Description
I absolutely love the cedar waxwing birds!
This one appeared in our tree during the summer here in Wisconsin.
They usually love to eat the little cones and berries on the cedar trees.
They are commonly seen in flocks, flying from one area to the next, searching for berries.
Their name comes from the red wax-like wing tips,
plus their preference for berries.
They will feed on insects before the berries are ripe during the summer months. The male and female are both sleek looking brownish birds with a pointed crest on their head. They both have a light yellow belly
and a bandit-like black mask.
The waxwing spends most of its' time in the tops of tall trees,
so it was a real treat to catch this one shopping around!
They are commonly spotted during the winter months as
they wander to find a food supply.
