Description
This watercolor painting portrays two Amish ladies walking barefoot down a country road that is bathed in sunlight creating shadows and sun streaks through all the wildflowers along the road. Old wooden fence posts border the road where these women are possibly delivering baskets of baked goods, produce from their garden to one of their neighbors nearby.
I have always been fascinated by the way of life that the Amish continue to carry on through so many generations. It is a simpler way of life and yet much more difficult than modern day farmers. The work is much harder when it is done by hand and without the convenience of today's technology and equipment.
Central Wisconsin is where a number of Amish communities have sprung up over recent years. In fact, Wisconsin's Amish population is the fourth largest in North America.
Amish children begin helping with small tasks at a very early age and continue to contribute more as they grow. To see the little children all dressed in the same attire as the adults is so charming.
One Amish community is near the city of Portage, Wisconsin. The people have established themselves on many farms in the area and provide all the necessary needs for each other. They have built furniture shops, bakeries, general stores, cheese factories, quilt shops, and buggy shops where they produce the black buggies that are so familiar to us all. Their general stores and bakeries are always filled with neighboring people and visitors to the area. The Amish people are very friendly to everyone they meet or wait on in their shops and will always give a cheerful wave to you whenever you pass them on the road or drive past their perfectly groomed front yards. They have the most beautiful flower and vegetable gardens where everyone in the family seems to do their part in keeping it just perfect.
This is the fourth painting in my Amish family life series.

What a masterpiece this is. It caught my eye right away. I love how you have picked up the colors of the women's attire in the flowers that line their path. Here is a link to a contest in Colorado, for Colorado Women's Day, that I plan to enter. I think this painting would be a great one to enter if you are so inclined. You don't have to reside in Colorado. FAV https://www.bouldercountyarts.org/node/26230
