Title
Tiny Verdin In Honeysuckle
Artist
Marilyn Smith
Medium
Painting - Watercolor And Ink
Description
This tiny bird species, known as Verdin, are very common in the southwest desert areas. They are often seen in residential areas also as they are very fond of the blooms of the desert honeysuckle or huummingbird bush. They tear the petals from the blossom, apparently getting nectar from them. They also love most tubular flowers, especially red or pink ones, such as the penstemon. The Verdin are very adept at robbing the nectar from hummingbird feeders as well!
These adorable little creatures, with their bright yellow heads and rust colored wing bars, announce their presence with a distinctive little chirp. Trying to capture them with a camera is a real challenge as they are quicker than the eye!
This cheerful watercolor and ink painting by Marilyn Smith would make a great addition to any bird art collection.
