Description
I am always facinated by the beautiful shades of green
that certain cholla cacti will produce.
The color is so unusual, therefore it always attracts attention
whenever I am wandering in a botanical garden such as
the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ.
The Tesajo Cholla, or pencil cholla (choy-ya) are primarily
native to the Baja Penninsula of Mexico but also grow
extremely well in the Sonoran desert of Arizona.
The cholla have many different colors of flowers in the spring,
depending on their variety.
These lime green beauties are by far,
the favorite choice for me. Most common blooms
among the cholla are in the yellow shades.
There are also many gorgeous flowers in the fuscia,
peach, cream and orange hues as well.
