Description
Sofie, The Artist is the eighth illustration in the series of "Sofie and Mittens". This ink and watercolor drawing by Marilyn Smith was created illustrating a delightful, impish little "free-spirit" girl with red hair and glasses, that has her own sense of style and is not intimidated by "correct colors" or combinations in her wardrobe! Most of Sofie's outfits fall into the category of vintage styles. She loves wearing hats and her favorite boots. She is a caring, fun-loving, but old-fashioned child who loves to try new adventures. Sofie also has her orange tiger kitty named Mittens, that is always by her side in every adventure. Sofie appears a little more "grown-up" in her painting attire. Today she is painting a portrait of her beloved cat, Mittens. He is posing very seriously with his matching artist's beret perched on top of his head. Sofie has her beret on along with a denim pinafore or apron over her nice cream colored dress. I love the extra touch of her red striped stockings and her favorite boots. She has a wonderful new red easel for her projects.
I hope this new series will take you on an enjoyable journey with Sofie and Mittens through the seasons and other fun activities. These little illustrations make wonderful greeting cards and would look adorable framed with a colorful mat and hanging in a little girl's room! Don't miss the next "Sofie" in this series.

Love how the artist is examining her work to decide if it is finished while the cat's face suggests it definitely is :) great execution and fun
