Description
I took a shot of this beautiful Santa Rita bloom at the
Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona.
I loved the way the bloom was glowing as it stood out
against the soft gray-brown adobe wall.
In winter, the pads of the Santa Rita turn a purple
or reddish tint. This makes such a great contrast
with the brilliant yellow and sometimes red blooms
that appear as spring comes to the desert.
The Desert Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to
view the various cacti blooms as well as all the
wildflowers native to the Sonoran Desert area.
Many bird species reside in this great park so
you will see lots of hummingbirds basking in
the sun and taking nourishment from all the
flowers around them, as well as a large variety
of other common birds.
Gambel's quail are very abundant in the garden and
you can always hear their haunting call as they roam
through the plants and desert settings.
