Artist's Description
This is the third watercolor painting in my new series of
cactus flowers. I am featuring the beautiful blooms of
each different cactus, rather than focusing on the cactus
plant itself. These paintings take many hours to complete
the detail of the spines, thorns and the blossoms.

Saguaro cacti are native to the Sonoran desert of the
Southwest region of the United States.
They can grow to an amazing height of 40 feet with
blooms mainly on the tips of their arms during the spring
months of April through June.
The creamy, white flowers open after sunset, and by the next
afternoon, have wilted. This spectacle repeats itself for approximately
four weeks until around 100 blossoms have opened.
White winged doves and long nose bats along with bees and moths
feed on the nectar and pollinate the flowers.
The fruit of the saguaro ripens in June or July and contains
