This watercolor painting of a ruddy duck decoy was created by Marilyn Smith.
My fascination for the beauty of decoys goes back a long time.
I used to purchase the bare wooden carvings and then paint them,
resembling various species of ducks, such as the pintail, wood ducks,
redheads, mallards and others. Most of them became gifts to family
and friends. Later, my interest changed to painting watercolors of the decoys in a variety of settings. This ruddy duck is resting on a stack of books near a bright, sunny window, perhaps in the library of an old house.
It is being used more as a piece of art on display rather than for hunting purposes. The owner has quite the collection of books pertaining to duck hunting, decoy carving, and art related subjects.
