Description
This lovely Indian girl seems to be recalling the stories passed down to her from her ancestors, the "Old Ones".
Their history has been kept alive through stories from one generation to another since there really is no written diaries of their way of life.
The various Native American tribes still carry on their traditions with celebratory dances that depict a culture that remains unbroken in spite of centuries of change.
Every Native American tribe has an abundance of talented artists, whether it is with pottery, painting, sculpture, sand painting, basket making or weaving.
This young girl may be taking a break from one her tribal dances and is
reminiscing about her ancient ancestory in the Southwest.
The sundappled spot where she is sitting is actually a stone bench in
the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Garden is great place to view all the varieties of cacti and other native desert plants.
I had taken photos of this gorgeous, peaceful spot while roaming through
the garden and knew that I wanted to paint this scene one day.
Then I decided rather than the usual lady with flowing dress and large hat,
I would place a beautiful Native American lady there, portraying
the sad fact that nothing stays the same. Therefore, we have to
remember the "Old Ones".
