Artist's Description
This hummingbird collage in watercolor consists of five different male hummingbird species that reside in Arizona and the southwest Sonoran desert regions. It is quite unlikely that hyou would see all of these together in such a feeding frenzy as the males are very territorial and are not often willing to share their food sources. My love for the hummingbirds inspired me to show the variety of rainbow colors within the five species that I have painted here. The first one on the bottom left is the Anna's hummingbird. His glorious fuchsia-red crown and gorget glisten when he is in the sunlight. His upper body and wings are green with dark tail feathers. Here he is diving for the red blossom of the Aloe Vera plant. Just above him I placed the Broad-billed hummingbird feeding on a Chuparosa red flower. He is adorned in several iridescent shades of greens, blues and purples covering almost his entire body, which sets him apart from the other hummingbirds. This species will also be recogni...
