Description
I spotted this flower combination while walking through
the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ.
The wonderful contrast of the brilliant orange blooms
on the prickly pear cactus along with the purple shades
of the neighboring flower made such an interesting
arrangement for any viewer.
The prickly pear cacti have several varieties that grow
in the Sonoran Desert here in Arizona.
Their springtime blossoms are always something to look
forward to. The orange flowers as seen here seem to
have a translucent look when the sun shines through them.
There are also yellow shades, deeper red-orange, and
some species open from a peach colored bud that turns
into a wonderful clear yellow.
The result of that phenomenon is seeing at least three
different colors on one cactus plant at the same time.
