Description
The orange cholla is one of several species within the cholla family. This photo was taken at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ where there are many varieties of cholla, as well as dozens of other cacti. The beautiful blooms usually last about a day which is such a shame that their beauty can't be enjoyed longer. Not all the blooms open the same day so at least you can view them for several days. The cholla family includes the teddybear, devil, buckhorn, and whipple. The blossoms range from pale yellow or cream into the orange and peach spectrum, all the way to a very beautiful maroon shade.
