Description
Monument Valley is on the Navajo Indian reservation in northern
Arizona and part of Utah. It is a wonderful place to visit
with a drive-thru loop and many vistas and viewing areas
to stop and enjoy. The various rock formations have become familiar icons whenever Monument Valley is mentioned. This soft, pastel-colored scene is viewed from one of the many vistas known as Artist Point. The mittens formation is visible in the foreground, along with mountains, buttes and other recognizable formations in the distance. Also in the foreground are several Navajo homestead buildings that are dwarfed by the massive buttes.
One cannot comprehend the vastness of this area from photographs. Seeing the formations up close certainly makes one realize how insignificant we truly are in comparison. The most famous rock formations are the "mittens" which I have portrayed in another painting titled "Sunrise Stampede". These can be seen for many miles as you drive toward the park in the Four Corners region of Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.
Many western movies were made in the tribal park, including
several starring John Wayne.
The entire area is breathtaking and a must see for everyone!
Other paintings in this series includes: Monument Valley Vista, Monument Valley Raging Storm, Sunrise Serenade and Monument Valley.

Awesome painting, Marilyn! I've been to Monument Valley and was awestruck by these natural rock formations, also referred to as "Mittens" for their mitten-like shape. L&F
