Description
During the Christmas season I began reminiscing about my childhood and remembered fondly how excited all the kids were when the first snow fall came! We couldn't wait to dig out those old sleds and head for the neighbors hills in their woods. We stayed out there until we were so cold we could barely make the trek back home but hot chocolate was usually waiting there in the kitchen!
Wooden sleds like this one in my painting were very difficult to maneuver if the snow was too deep. Along came plastic saucers for my children so gliding along on top of the snow was so much better than sinking in on those metal runners!
During the winter time the sleds were always lined up leaning against the one room country school house so we could take off during lunch hour and get in a few runs down that big hill. Those were the days.
Check out my next painting -- "Grandpa's Radio Flyer Wagon" which is a spring scene that will fit perfectly on the right side of this winter scene!

Beautiful watercolor, Marilyn. Lovely colors and textures. Indeed, I owned a Clipper sled when I was a young boy. Thanks for sharing and for the memories.

Marilyn, What a beautifully nostalgic artwork โ so appealing this time of the year! This is just the sort of sled my brothers and friends used. Itโs amazing none of us were ever seriously injured by the steel frames! L&F

What a beautifully nostalgic painting! I remember these old steel-runner sleds. Itโs a wonder none of my friends or siblings were ever seriously hurt using our old sleds. L&F
