Description
Traveling along Highway 40 through New Mexico at sunrise, I was drooling over the gorgeous red rock canyon scenery and pulled off at the next exit to try a few photos. As luck would have it, we found ourselves at the Continental Divide. The landscape was breathtaking with the sun hitting the edges of those rocks along with the distant mountain tops. The entire grassy area next to the railroad tracks was dotted with wild sunflowers. In the foreground there was so many layers of golden grasses, old worn out fences, tumbleweeds, trees of many varieties and more sunflowers. This watercolor painting was created from my own photographs and enhanced by adding the old steam engine and freight train for interest. The scene also seemed to need a little wildlife, therefore I placed a Kestrel hawk perched on the old wire fence, eyeing the mouse hidden in the grass.
