Description
On the first day of winter in December of 2013, I took a ride from my home in the Phoenix area to see if the latest storm had left any snow on Four Peaks, one of the highest series of peaks in the area. At an elevation of close to 8,000 ft. it often has beautiful white tips after a snow storm. I was disappointed this day as the clouds just would not part and give me the view I was looking for.
I drove over Usery Pass to get my best sighting but when I turned around to head back the sun was getting very low and suddenly it created such a gorgeous glow on the Usery Mountains and this single patch of saguaro cactus!
I had to stop the car and try to capture this moment. Along the way, we did see
horses roaming in a fenced area of the desert, the fountain erupting at Fountain Hills, several varieties of birds and so many species of cacti.
