Description
This watercolor painting by Marilyn Smith depicts a gorgeous dapple grey wild horse from the Salt River band that travels all around the river and Tonto National Forest area also including the Saguaro Lake areas in Arizona. A few other members of the band can be seen grazing in the background. The bands make their appearances all along the Salt River while they snorkel into the water scooping up pieces of eel grass, their favorite food source. This dapple grey with a flaxen mane and tail seemed to be enjoying splashing the other members of the group while running along the shore. They are always so thrilling to quietly observe by remaining several feet in the distance. I hope they will always be allowed to roam freely in the Southwest!
