Description
My recent watercolor painting of the southwest high desert region could be most anywhere in the mountain areas of Arizona or other western states as well. This moody, early evening setting depicts the lonely cowboy resting for the night on a beautiful stony ledge up high in the canyons. His horse grazes nearby the campfire while his rider enjoys a cup of Joe as he takes in the setting sun, the full moon and the stars beginning to twinkle in the evening sky. My inspiration for the "Call Of The Canyon" comes from a song recently recorded by the Country Western singer and songwriter, Rex Allen, Jr., as he began his last year of touring before retiring. The canyon is " beckoning him home". The horse in the painting was created from images of Koko, Rex's father's horse, that appeared in Rex Allen's western movies many years ago.
