Description
One of my favorite birds to observe is the Cedar Waxwing. They are such a regal looking bird with their smooth, silky plumage and their beautiful, sleek rusty crest. The bright white and yellow on their belly seems to glow and the tip of their tail is the same color. Their unique coloring ranges from the rusty orange crest and black mask down to the silky grays of their wings that are dotted with red. This illustration is done in Prismacolor pencil which allows for blending of all the glorious colors that this bird displays.
I wanted to portray this waxwing in his typical dining background. These birds will gorge themselves on ripe berries or dried up crab apples until they can barely fly. Entire flocks of birds will come to feast on the treats creating a very noisy feeding frenzy.
