Description
As we begin the aging process and try to understand the future, we also begin to wonder if there is "a tomorrow". All of the yesterday's are gone and so many elderly people are left to contemplate these thoughts in their lonely times. Thoughts of dying, ill-health, becoming a burden to family, looking forward to being alone, are all very depressing to many senior citizens. This can be a time that they renew their faith in God, everlasting Eternity and hope of being reunited with loved ones that have gone on before them.
This watercolor painting came to me after looking again at some of the last photos taken of my Mother. Even though she had earned her many wrinkles by age 97 she was still beautiful inside and tried to always have a smile on her lips. The image that will forever stand out in my memories is "her eyes, they grew so old".
This is not a portrait of her, but a composite of memories of her and her ever-present jewelry, moments that I know she felt alone, and thoughts of my very own immortality. Perhaps that explains the paintbrushes and blank paper in front of the lady. Will the day come when I can no longer touch the brushes to the paper?

Marilyn---wow---I still have chills after taking a close look at this 'mother' figure and reading your description. Well---I could say so very much here---but you said it very well. This really is just a journey--to our real home--I keep reminding myself. This is super fantastic work with a story that we all know in one way or another--and if not now---it is sure to visit later. lvf
