Description
This painting sprung to life after my first visit to Sedona, Arizona and the little village and shopping area of Tlaquepaque. Artists were busy painting in the courtyards and the trees were just budding out. All the Spanish architecture with adobe walls, clay tile roofs and Mexican tiles on every stairway are a sight to behold. The shops and galleries within this courtyard are always bustling with tourists and shoppers looking for the perfect piece of art. The artist in the forground was Irving Barlebin who displayed artwork in the various galleries in Tlaquepaque. I had the chance to visit with him while he was painting and he gave me a few tips on how to learn to paint with a loose style. I wish I could have followed his teaching but I still have my own detailed style that I find hard to change. I entered this painting and won a first place award at a Wisconsin Regional Art Show in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and from there it was entered in the State Art Show in Madison, Wisconsin. While it was on display there I received a Traveling Exhibit Award which meant that the piece traveled all over the State of Wisconsin and was on display at various banks, libraries, art centers for an entire year before returning home.
