Description
The Queen butterfly just landed on this branch of yellow and orange flowers that were blooming at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. The second butterfly was sharing the flowers but decided the pink blossoms looked more inviting. Queen butterflies are very common in the various areas around Arizona and we see them all the time at the Garden. The Queen cannot withstand cold winters, therefore they do stay in the south and western regions
of the country. They will be seen predominately wherever milkweed varieties are found as that is their favorite host plant. With their wings in a closed position, they are easily mistaken for the Monarch butterfly. However, the Queen is a much smaller flying beauty measuring a little over three inches.
The Desert Botanical Garden features a wonderful butterfly exhibit twice a year inside the garden area.
